Material selection is fundamental to moisture protection. Priority should be given to PVC-specific pipes that meet national standards. These pipes typically contain UV stabilizers and UV inhibitors, enhancing their weather resistance in humid environments. For example, PVC pipes with added calcium carbonate filler can increase hardness and reduce micro-cracks caused by external pressure. Pipes containing lead salt stabilizers should be avoided in drinking water systems to prevent heavy metal leaching. Furthermore, the pipe wall thickness should be uniform, and the threaded portion should be formed using rotational molding to avoid burrs or stress concentration points caused by machining the threads, thus reducing the risk of moisture penetration from the outset.

Installation techniques directly affect moisture-proofing effectiveness. Before laying, the construction area must be cleaned to prevent sharp objects such as gravel and bricks from scratching the pipes. For underground laying, a 10cm thick layer of fine sand should be laid first, followed by the pipes, and finally backfilled with fine sand to 30cm above the pipe top to prevent stones from directly contacting the pipes. For horizontal laying, the spacing between pipe clamps should be controlled at 1.5-2 meters; for vertical laying, clamps should be applied every 1 meter to ensure the pipes are stable and do not wobble. If heat fusion is used, heating temperature and time must be strictly controlled to avoid gaps due to insufficient fusion. After fusion, allow natural cooling; do not pour water or blow air to accelerate cooling, as this can cause pipe shrinkage and loosening of the joint.

Environmental control can significantly reduce moisture pressure. When installing PVC threaded penetration pipes in damp areas, ventilation design can be incorporated to reduce moisture accumulation. For example, mechanical ventilation openings can be installed in basements or cable shafts, or axial flow fans can be installed for timed dehumidification. For environments with long-term immersion in water, a layer of asphalt fiberglass cloth moisture-proof layer with a thickness of not less than 1.2mm can be wrapped around the outside of the pipe, ensuring an overlap of at least 20cm at joints, and securing it with galvanized iron wire. Routine maintenance is the long-term guarantee of moisture protection. Regularly inspect the pipe surface for cracks, deformation, or aging, paying particular attention to threaded connections and bends. If tape is found to be detached or the moisture-proof layer is damaged, it should be repaired or replaced promptly. For pipes exposed outdoors, surface dirt and deposits should be cleaned quarterly to prevent microbial growth and corrosion. Before winter, check for displacement due to thermal expansion and contraction, and adjust the support positions if necessary.
